More than fifty percent local control can be assured with curative radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy or neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy preceding surgery in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer. While an increased overall survival and decreased non-brain distant metastases can be achieved with these treatment modalities, an increase in brain metastasis incidence was observed. Prophylactic cranial irradiation is the standard practice in the management of completely remitted small cell lung cancer, however, this approach is not routine in non-small cell lung cancer. Studies aiming to decrease the growing incidence of brain metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer were analyzed in this reviewed.
