Keywords: breast cancer in elderly women, adjuvant chemo-hormonotherapy
Nowadays, with the increase in life expectancy, older breast cancer patients have been seen more frequently. When determining the treatment approaches for older women with breast cancer, some large scales for geriatric assessment have been used, in addition to assessment of performance status. By using these scales, treatment related additional problems kept in mind. Older breast cancer patients are not enrolled in many clinical trials because of comorbid conditions. Even if they are enrolled in a clinical trial, their ratio is very small compared with cancer frequency seen at that age group. So, the results of these trials are away from representing that age group. Therefore reliable and efficient adjuvant chemo-hormonotherapy protocol for older women with breast cancer is controversial. Studies about this subject are continuing. We have discussed adjuvant chemo-hormonotherapy in elderly women with breast cancer.
